CLE Clinic’s first patient to start their first EVER clinical trial for NMO

Have you ever woken up and thought, “Hey, why not start a clinical trial today?” Welllllll that’s exactly what I did yesterday.

I was the first patient enrolled in the Cleveland Clinic’s Mellen Center’s first ever clinical trial for NMO. Damn. Now that’s a big effin deal. As a part of the trial I was assessed my countless neurologists, for weeks leading up to yesterday. I also met with an ophthalmologist regularly, to check up on my eyes that were also attacked by NMO. So then finally after a few more check ups yesterday, I went up to the Mellen Center’s “Infusion Room” to receive the drug (or maybe the placebo, who knows yet) …

No major side effects from the therapy so far, just a little rash on my left forearm from the sight of injection… I was told this is mild irritation from where my IV was placed, and no effect of the drug.

Feeling pretty good otherwise and excited to see what happens!

  1. Mom says:

Connor is making a difference! At an NMO patient day a few weeks ago, the number one question he was asked was “why are you doing the clinical trial?” His response, “why not?!”
